Welcome to the Master Fiction workshop of the Harriette Austin Writing Program. For the student who has completed the Advanced workshop, this Master Fiction workshop completes the series of Elements of Fiction workshops. Workshop activities will concentrate on development and
refinement of each student's fiction manuscript. Culmination of the workshop
activities will be a critique of each student's manuscript by a practicing
agent or editor. Students will be provided with references and lists of
possible literary agents and publishers. Select students from these workshops
will be awarded tuition-free scholarships to the Harriette Austin Writers
Conference and a free evaluation and interview at the conference with
an agent or editor. The first assignment in this workshop is a renewal of our basic contract. Tell us what you want to accomplish in this workshop in terms of your personal writing. I'm not asking for anything binding, nothing that you can change as you go along. But in order for the workshop to work most effectively for you, I need to have an idea of what your needs are so that I can tailor the lessons and the exercises to your best profit. So . . . Assignment #1: Post a message to the Master Fiction discussion list (MasterFiction@listserv.uga.edu) giving as clear a notion as you can at this point of what you want and expect to get from the Master Fiction workshop. Ideally, what do you want it to do for you? Along with that general statement, submit a short description of the project you plan to work on in this workshop. I won't hold you to it if you decide to change, but I want you to have a focus to your writing efforts. Looking forward to another great workshop experience, -Charles Connor
